Trek's Emonda SL is an incredibly light frame that more importantly, rides incredibly well. Trek set out to make a super-light production frame, and they succeeded, with this gorgeous piece of carbon craftsmanship coming in at 1,050 grams. Beyond the weight, the folks at Trek know that the RIDE is everything. The geometry was crafted with feedback from pro racers. Stiff where you want power transfer, compliant where it counts. Only from countless wins and hours in the saddle can you achieve a ride like this. All the things that make a truly great frame are here: a tapered head tube, BB90 and internal cable routing. You even get started off right with a full carbon fork and a seatmast cap courtesy of Bontrager.

I wanted a frame that would accommodate wider tires and a frame that was a bit more forgiving but, hopefully, wouldn't give up any acceleration or handling. I found a pretty good example of that in this frame. Super comfortable, excellent handling, and easy to build up. Previous frame was a $5k deal that was one of the lightest in 2012 when it was new. This mid-level model only added about 240 grams with no perceived different in acceleration or climbing. In fact, I did my fastest 50 miles ever on this frame at nearly 26 mph so it does the job just fine for my enthusiast (middle aged, over weight) skill set. Worth a look for sure if you want a really good all around frame at a reasonable price.
