Put the 4 Series Domane through its paces and revel in its unmatched ride quality and quickness. Graced with race-winning Trek technology like defense-grade OCLV carbon tubing, IsoSpeed, and stable endurance geometry, the Domane is a true game changer. It masters long, epic rides with ease while also giving you unrivaled speed and comfort over the roughest roads that dare to challenge you. If the going gets too rough, know you can stop on a dime with TRP hydraulic disc brakes. The 4.0 comes equipped with a tapered carbon fork for responsive cornering, a wide-range Shimano Sora 9-speed drivetrain, and a full complement of Bontrager components so it climbs uphill as quickly as it climbs up race categories. Having been designed for racing on the cobbles of northern Europe, the Domane also comes with an integrated chain keeper to keep you pedaling no matter how bumpy the road.

Trek's Domane is a game-changer. It's a high-performance race machine that's also comfortable enough for even your longest rides and roughest roads. Here are some highlights:
The Domane IsoSpeed fork. The Domane E2 front end. The Domane 3S chain-keeper.
The IsoSpeed fork's rake (offset) has been increased to optimize handling and lengthen the wheelbase for greater compliance over even harsh terrain. It's already been proven with wins in races over the toughest cobbles in Europe.
The E2 head tube tapers from 1 1/2 to 1-1/8 inch and is wider side to side than front to back. This minimizes weight, maximizes power transfer and improves cornering. Result: a more powerful and confident ride. The 3S chain-keeper is integrated directly into the frame. It's an elegant solution that prevents the chain coming off on rough roads and under hard shifts. It lets you make any shift you want at any time without worrying.

Trek's BB90.
Trek's Domane features a unique bottom bracket that's 90mm wide (traditional ones are 68mm wide). This wide bottom bracket lets Trek build the frame with larger tubes for increased power transfer. Plus, the BB90 is machined so that the bearings can be placed directly into the frame saving weight due to fewer parts, ensuring additional pedaling efficiency and simplifying maintenance and repair.

About Me

Pros

  • Nice ride, accelerates well.
  • Pretty bike

Cons

  • Clearance between front fork and disc rotor < 1mm

Best Uses

Comments:

I bought this bike to use on country lanes and climbing the hills we have in Devon. I have seen it variously described by dealers as Road, touring and cyclocross so don't really know what I bought. I was looking for something more rigged than road certainly. The clearance between the front rotor and fork is way to small < 1mm and reading the manual the advice is to only ride on paved surfaces. I expect soon that the fork will start to wear.

About Me

Pros

  • Gearing For Hills Great
  • Great For Sportiffs
  • Super Light
  • Disc Brakes Come On Tdf

Cons

  • 3450 Limited Speed
  • Racers Bigger Chainring

Best Uses

Comments:

Great bike for getting back into cycling or retired racers the 34/50 limits power and speed on the downhill's but the cassette has all the necessary gears for the weaker climbers though. Disc brakes very powerful but we need the TDF to sanction use to make them more popular.

Comments:

Picked up the Madone 4.0 disc today and put just 10 miles on it. I have a knee recovering from ACL surgery and am taking it easy. Originally I was looking at a Domane 2.0, but decided to go for the 4.0. I feel that the 4.0 disc offers a very good value for the extra $600 - full carbon frame, disc brakes, pass through axles. While I was out, the front wheel slipped on a curb, and I accidently ran straight over the curb onto the grass. Thought I would bend a rim or crack the frame. The bike rode the curb smoothly and in a controlled manner while I securely gripped the handlebars. I landed on grass and the bike and I were fine. ISO Speed, plus pass through axles I am sure helped save the day. Also ran over a couple of unexpected 4 inch wide grooves in the road and the ISO Speed system protected my rear end and the bike. This is one good looking bike that attracts attention among Trekers because its so new. It rides like a dream and just makes you want to keep going like the Energizer bunny.
