2012 Trek 4300 Disc

Trek's 4300 Disc is perfect for getting into mountain biking, cruising around town, commuting, running errands and everything else! Its Trek Gold aluminum frame feels light enough to float and is built plenty tough to hold its own in the durability department. Plus, this sweet ride boasts a 100mm-travel SunTour suspension fork for control, an easy-pedaling 27-speed Shimano drivetrain, a plush seat and super-versatile tires on dependable wheels. Plus, to really keep your speed in check, you've got powerful Hayes disc brakes too.

    Comments:

I've ridden my blue 2012 4300 for a year now and overall I'm pleased with the bike. I've been rough on the bike this year. I originally bought it for just commuting and running errands. I even added a kickstand. Lots of curb jumping and some wet weather. Then I started riding trails and then more trails with the bike, and that's where you see its limitations. It's not a bike for rocky trails and technical single track. It's noisy and a harsh ride on the bumpy trails. Riding under these conditions can tire you out and be rough on your body. The chain and rear derailleur will slap and make a lot of noise under fast decents and the rear wheel will loose traction on the bumpy sections. I did replace the seat as it was too firm and narrow, but I don't have much padding on my bottom. The brakes work great, and the fork can easily be locked out while riding if needed. I love the grips...good with bare hands or gloves. It shifts smoothly for the most part, but my front derailleur rubs against my chain...making noise when I'm in 18th gear. My Trek dealer couldn't fix that. I'd like to put street tires on it as I'm shopping for a full suspension bike now. It's a versatile bike and very tough and reliable. I would recommend it to someone who needs to bomb around town or it you're riding smooth trails.

    Comments:

Ride cross country and single track 1-2 times a week. The tires are a weak spot unless you are doing urban riding. They are useless if you ride in loose conditions. The preload on the fork doesn't seem to actually adjust anything and is too high for most riders. The seat is terrible. I replace the tires with some aggressive Kendas, the seat, and found a Fox Float 32 on clearance and it's a new bike. Comfortable, capable, and smooth.

I use this bike for everyday use it is the best bike I have ever had.it handels very well,it's very responsive and is light weight.the only bad thing about it is when it gets cold the wheels don't like to spin easley at all,and the rims that come standard are not so great for rough city use.I recommend replaceing them with a more ruggid set of rims

This bike is great! It is not as heavy as mentioned by other reviews, but the fork adds this extra weight. Upgrade the fork for an outstanding single track mountain bike. This is a solid bike for the $$$.

          Comments:

The 4300 replaced a 12 year old MTB that was recently stolen. Both the hydrolic brakes front fork are terrific and a noticable improvement over the old MTB. I have taken it many times on some improved trails in [...] and it has performed well. Replaced the saddle and peddles for an easy improvement. I do find the bike quite heavy though. Heavier then I had anticipated, especially when climbing. Quality build though' it just feels so solid. Love the black and orange paint job too. Trek store saleman fitted me to a 16" frame and I can't say enough for that valuable fitting/advice. I feel like I control the bike. Overall, having a lot of fun with it on the trails, or to go get a coffee.

Great bike, tough as nails! My only complaint is the seat. Once you put a decent seat on the bike, it's a great ride and amazing starter bike.

Great bike for the price, built like a tank and gets the job done. Hayes brakes are great on this bike. Only complaint is the cheap $15 derailures on this bike, you would think with a price tag of 700 it would come with something better then aceras.

            Comments:

I bought this bike in 2009, I love it. I was just getting into cycling again after a number of years off. I wanted a "cheap" bike so I bought it from the local box store. What a mistake, after returning it a number of times, I got my money back and bought this bad boy. I havn't looked back since. I ride this bike like it was stolen, I have went over the bars a few times, flipped backwards a few times, Nothing was damaged on the bike, just me. I would say to any rider, buy a TREK, great brand, great bikes. My only compliant was the seat. Very uncomfortable, and the glue started to leat the leather seperate from the plastic seat. I brought it back to my local shop, no questions asked, They pulled a brand new one off the self, ripped it out of the package and put it on my bike. It is great experience when you ave a great shop, and bike. Thanks Trek Thanks Northern Cycle.
