The bike is great for what you pay. I own the Matte Black 2009 version. Only a couple of things I would recommend updgrading. First, the plastic (no-grip) pedals. Shimano clipless work great once you get the hang of them. Second, the disc brakes. Avid disc brakes are exceptional. Enjoy the trails!

      Comments:

I chose this model as a gift for my wife because she was also interested to try mountain biking. Since i also use a Trek bike i am confident that the 3900 will be a good bike for her to start with. We were not disappointed with the bike. The 3900 was really value for money for it's price. We were very impressed. The components are solid. It looked good in matte black and the performance was very satisfactory when we hit the trails together. My wife experienced no problems with the stock components so there was no need to replace anything. We just wanted to share our thoughts on the 3900 to help people with limited budget on having difficulty choosing a reliable and durable mountain bike to enjoy the fun of trail riding or recreational cycling. This is a winner from Trek.

        Comments:

purchased this bike in august 2010 3 months old having problems with front hub making loud noise, dealer hasnt done anything for me aside from adjusting it. { how many times can u adjust it} the hub is obviously defective, im pretty much at a dead end i asked him if he can try to put a warranty claim but apparently he doesent want to, so im basicly stuck with a bike that i paid for but cant ride, getting a hold of trek or bontrager is like pissing in the wind, i love the way they tell you lifetime warranty on the frame, 2 yrs on parts, as long as nothing breaks, but buyer beware if something does go wrong you are screwed just like i am now, Thanks Trek, you have made by biking experience a living hell.
